In early 2015, PROTEK proudly announced that our own David Ableman wrote an article entitled “Sick Building Syndrome Costs Millions”, which was picked up and used as the cover story for the Facility Manager’s Journal (FMJ)*. The leading resource for industry professionals seeking to improve the productivity of their facilities, the FMJ is an award-winning publication that goes out to over 24,000 International Facility Management Association members, online and in-print. In the article, Mr. Ableman raised many questions, chief among them: “Is Your Building Sick?”

In our last blog series, we discussed the issue of “Replace vs. Refurbish”. We showed how refurbishing assets has proven to increase productivity, and thus top lines. We also showed it enhances sustainability and thus bottom lines. And we highlighted how it fosters a healthier environment. The FMJ article takes these to the next level.

For example, did you know that dust mites are responsible for about 25 percent of all allergy diseases and factor in 50 to 80 percent of asthmatic cases, as well as in countless cases of eczema, hay fever, and other allergic ailments? Have you heard that studies show how “dust mites may be the most common cause of year-round allergy and asthma,” which “is one of (the U.S.’) most common heath conditions”?

Isn’t investing in your most important asset, your workers, worth the investment in your future?
